Here's how to make it work into your lifestyle without undoing all your hard work!
Alcohol is its own macronutrient and an "empty" calorie which leaves us with little nutrient value.
There are 7 calories per gram of ethanol, and when it's present in the body, lipolysis - our fat burning process is inhibited while the body metabolises the alcohol.
This doesn't meant you can't lose fat, it just means it has to be factored into your total daily intake. And For fatloss to occur you must be in negative energy balance.
Just like you track all your other macronutrients, you need to track the calories in your alcohol because let me tell you they add up.
1 standard shot of vodka is 97 calories .
You can take calories from either fat (9cal per gram) or carbohydrates (4cal per gram) to fit into your daily macros.
If I took those 97 calories and divided it by 4 that would mean I would have to deduct about 25g away from my carbs.
If I had 4 standard drinks with vodka in them, that's 100g of carbs and almost 400 calories. (That's not even including the calories from other ingredients in cocktails.
Thats pretty significant.
That's literally a whole meal. Personally I'd prefer to eat those carbs, but there's a time and a place for a drink or too.
You can lose fat while and have a drink, It just needs to be factored into your calorie budget.
Remember to drink responsibly and factor in the calories that come with your delicious cocktails 🍹.
